China’s Yutu 2 Rover Spots Mysterious ‘Cube’ on the Moon’s Far Side

China’s Yutu 2 rover has discovered a mysterious cube-shaped object on the far side of the moon (though probably not aliens). Over the next two or three lunar days – which translate to roughly two or three Earth months – they will investigate this strange sighting.

Yutu 2 Rover Launched as part of Chang’e 4, China’s fourth lunar mission and second to land a rover on the moon, this Yutu 2 rover made history when it made a successful “soft landing”, the first time such an operation had taken place on the far side of the Moon – thus truly uncovering previously unexplored territory.

So far, Yutu 2 has spent 37 lunar days (or approximately 35 months) exploring the Von Karman crater. So far it has covered just under 3000 feet; so its travels don’t pose much of a speeding ticket risk!

Recently, Yutu 2 detected an unknown cube on the lunar horizon (around 260 feet away), according to Our Space, an affiliate site associated with China National Space Administration. Our Space termed it as a “mystery hut”, per translation provided by Space.com; though this term should not be taken literally but instead considered more as placeholder description rather than scientific analysis of what Yutu found.

According to Space.com, Chinese scientists are keen to figure out just what Yutu 2 is studying on Earth; hence its purposeful journey will spend two or three lunar days (two to three Earth months) winding its way over, dodging craters as it travels its route over it all.
