Review: Moment Strohl Mountain Light 45L Backpack – Lightweight and Durable for Camera Gear

Finding a camera backpack that suits my needs can often feel like finding the ideal match: either it doesn’t fit right, doesn’t contain enough compartments, doesn’t hold enough, or weighs too much. I have gone through various packs searching for one suitable to various situations but am always left frustrated and longing for more.

I was filled with high expectations of what the Moment Strohl Mountain Light 45L could deliver in terms of hiking camera backpacking. So when given an opportunity to test one on a two-day backpacking trip on Minnesota’s Superior Hiking Trail – complete with rain and difficult trail conditions for much of its journey – my medium blue size bag was put through its paces in terms of my expectations and satisfaction overall. Unfortunately I found mixed feelings about it, though overall they leant positive.

Weight and Materials
The Moment Strohl Mountain Light stands out as being an extremely lightweight bag, which makes it stand out among similar camera backpacks I’ve used. While most camera backpacks I’ve experienced tend to weigh heavy before you even add your gear, this particular 45L camera backpack stands out with only 2.2 pounds weighing empty making it feel similar to an empty schoolbag!

Though lightweight in design, this backpack provides some structure through a steel frame. Though not meant to sit up on its own, the steel frame keeps some shape for easier packing and is removable if you wish to pack down into suitcase or other bag during long trips. Furthermore, there’s a molded back panel and cushioned hip belt for comfort and ventilation purposes.
